Volunteering

Volunteering is a rewarding way to be involved with your child's education.

We have volunteer opportunities for all levels of involvement. To sign up or ask questions about volunteering, email [email protected]. Specific requests for volunteers, such as the examples below, are regularly posted on ParentSquare.
Here are some ways you might contribute:

Active Involvement

Parents can directly affect the activities of the school by joining the Parent Teacher Association, the School Site Council, or the English Learner Advisory Committee.

The Sunnyside Elementary School PTA works in partnership with parents, teachers and staff to support our school so that all of our children can have the best education possible. For more information, see the PTA page here.

Each SFUSD school has an elected School Site Council (SSC) to represent parents, students, community members and school staff in the school governance process. Community elections take place in fall, so interested parents, teachers or staff should try to attend one or more meetings prior to running. Meetings are open to the public. Email us at [email protected].

Each California Public School from Kindergarten through Grade 12 with 21 or more English learners must form a functional English Learner Advisory committee (ELAC). The ELAC is a committee for parents or other community members who want to advocate for English Learners. Email the Principal if you'd like to take part in ELAC.
