Run to the Sunnyside!

The Fun Run is a beloved annual event where Sunnyside Elementary students walk, run or roll in their wheelchair to raise funds for school programs. Participants can choose to gather pledges for the number of laps they complete, or just to run for fun and physical fitness.

This year's Fun Run will take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Aptos Park, 147 Aptos Ave., from 10 am–12 pm. Registration begins at 10 am, and the Fun Run is at 11am.

Pledge sheets will be sent home with each student, or you can download a form here: English | Spanish | Chinese. Alternatively, students can automate their pledges with our personalized 99 Pledges page.

Whether you come out to walk, skip, roll or run or just want to hang out and support our school community, we hope to see you on April 12 for the Sunnyside Fun Run!

What to Expect on Race Day

Location: Aptos Playground: 147 Aptos Ave (at Ocean). There is street parking in the neighborhood and on Ocean Avenue, accessible street parking, accessible children's play area, an accessible picnic area, and accessible restrooms. Registration and warm ups will take place on the black top adjacent to the playground and the main event will take place on the path around the athletic field.

Timeline: 10 am-12 pm.

- Registration begins at 10 am. You will find your grade level table, check your student(s) in and sign a waiver. Here you can turn in any cash or checks/pledge sheets if you went that route. If you want to miss the crowds, come a bit early.

- Group warm up (optional but fun) at 10:45am

- Participants will head to the starting line for the main event to begin promptly at 11 am. Participants can walk, run, jog, or wheelchair on the path, and will get marked by race volunteers for every lap completed. Participants who do not want their skin marked with sharpie will carry a piece of paper for marking.

-Other ways to enjoy the day are simply hanging out, cheering everyone on, handing out high fives, etc. Everyone can take a break or stop whenever they need to.

- Participants can run until 12pm sharp, or stop whenever they are ready to be done. Then, they will return to the registration table and log their laps (this is crucial and kids need to be herded sometimes)! Participants who finish early can play on the playground, watch the rest, or lay flat on the ground catching their breath. Lots of options.

What to bring: Sunscreen or rain gear, depending on what weather the day decides to bring! The event is rain or shine. Cash (or PayPal on your phone) to buy concessions, and again, any pledge sheets or money you've collected. No pledges required to participate.

What to wear: Comfy footwear and clothes and Sunnyside colors!
We'll provide: Plenty of water and prizes for our runners! We'll also have fruit, granola bars, pizza, and baked goods available for purchase starting at about 10:30am.
