Our PTA runs and funds a broad variety of programs and events designed to build community and enhance student learning.

Why join the PTA?

You help support the efforts of both the California and national PTA organizations, both of which do vital work advocating for our children at the state and national levels, respectively. Your membership entitles you to vote on how the PTA spends its money, and to perks such as Legoland discount coupons. The bulk of your dues and all additional donations go to support Sunnyside.

PTA Executive Board

President
​​Jennifer Rose leads the PTA board and its committees, oversees ParentSquare and the weekly update, and is the first point of contact for families and anyone with questions for the principal.

Vice President
Joanna Spica oversees volunteer coordination and steps in for the president when needed.

Secretary
Yolanda Carrion assembles the agendas for PTA board and general meetings, takes notes and distributes them afterwards to the community via ParentSquare.

Treasurer
Cora Lee manages the PTA’s accounts; oversees the PTA’s budget; makes deposits of PTA funds; and assists with payments, taxes and auditing.

Auditor
The auditor checks the PTA budgets and filings for accuracy.​

Parliamentarian
Jennifer Kelly makes sure our PTA is compliant with California, National and local PTA rules and regulations.

PTA Committee Chairs

​Academic Support
Jamaica Maxwell and Liana Koehler support learning at the school through events, software, consultants and programs such as the Winter Read-A-Thon and STEAM Night.

Beth Wathen leads this committee which develops art cart activities for in-school visual arts enrichment related to our diverse cultural backgrounds.

Communications
Nicole Hill Arik updates the PTA's website and manages the school’s social media accounts.

Josh Carrion helps Sunnyside families and staffers in need, and organizes charitable giving and ways for kids to volunteer.

Fundraising
Amalia Gonzalez chairs the fundraising committee which hosts events and auctions to raise money for the PTA and the school site needs for the upcoming school year.

Jamie Patton leads this committee which helps keep the natural environment in and around the school learning garden alive and beautiful.

Grants Support
Bill Codding seeks extra funds for Sunnyside activities from outside organizations which don’t have to be repaid.

Health & Wellness
Erin Dumont leads this committee which works to keep families healthy and safe through organizing the Drop Zone, Bike and Walk to School days, self-care, recycling and other programs.

SNAC Representative
This representative serves Sunnyside's special needs community and the district by sharing ideas, concerns and resources.

Technology
Eric Cholankeril assesses classroom and school tech needs, buys
and distributes hardware and software, and helps troubleshoot
issues related to the technology we use.

Tracy Damiano leads this committee which helps new families to Sunnyside be a part of our school community with family buddies and incoming families playdates at a park.
